Lovely hand carved bone box housing a compass, overall measures 71mm x 65mm x 25mm.  The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a compass set inside.  The outer case lid has been hand etched with a scene depicting Napoleon Bonaparte on Horseback.  The scene is inspired by the famous painting 'Napoleon Crossing The Alps' by Jacques-Louis David.  The box has the text 'NAPOLEON LECOMTE PARIS 1821' etched into it.  The compass inside is more for decoration than to actually be used although the needle does seem to move and point North.
