Bronze Art Deco Style signed figure entitled ' Lighter than Air ' after the important sculptor Ferdinand Preiss.
Bronze Art Deco Style signed figure entitled ' Lighter than Air ' after the important sculptor Ferdinand Preiss. Although bearing the signature of PREISS this is not an original by him but a later re imagining of his work. This 16" high bronze depicts a semi clad woman holding aloft a sphere symbolising the newly found freedom of women. Her dress finished in a gilt colouring with her skin a bronze patina. Seated on a polished marble base.
Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss ( 1892-1943), based in Berlin, was the most prolific sculptor of the Art Deco period in Germany. He combined ivory, bronze, onyx and marble to create the most dazzling sculptures of his day, accurately reflecting his times. No one in his period surpassed him in his art.
